The UICT annual calendar is choc-a-bloc with a number of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The aim is to ensure the all-round development of the students, especially development of organizational and management skills, communication skills, creative talents, social and interpersonal skills, etc. apart from their brilliance in academics. These events provide an opportunity for the students to work in teams and have a fun-filled experience as a group.
UIAF (UICT interactivities Forum)
UIAF provides a platform for several student programs such as extempore speeches, group discussions, creativity sessions, quizzes, etc. to develop the organizational skills, management and creative talents of the students.
UIAF organizes seminars by eminent personalities on preparing for competitive examinations like GRE, CAT, and UPSC; on personality development, presentation and communication skills, etc. There are also interactive sessions with many prominent industrialists, and UICT alumni, who share their experiences with the students. UIAF also publishes an in-house magazine, which showcases the best of the creative and writing talents of the students. Besides, the UIAF organizes an annual sports meet.
USC (UICT Students' Council)
This is a council of the students, by the students and for the students. The intention is to help the students solve their problems and to provide a forum to build their personality. The USC organizes mandatory group discussions for all the students, to encourage interest in current affairs and issues, and to develop thinking, speaking and team skills. A strong emphasis is laid on developing interview skills.
Technological Association
The Technological Association is the official students' body. Among its activities are:
Funtech : Funtech is the annual five-day intra-collegiate cultural extravaganza. Every year, Funtech brings out the best of the students' diverse talents. It's a time for everyone to have good old-fashioned fun and learn something on the way.
The annual sports meet, organized during Funtech, includes cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, carom and chess competitions.
Freshers' day: To induct the Freshers into the UICT way of life. It is an opportunity for the Freshers to showcase their talents and become a part of the UICT family.
Annual day and Foundation day: where the best of UICT over the past year is on display, and we renew our pledge to work for the good of the college and its students.
Magazines: Bombay Technologist, the official journal of the Technological Association, which is now into its 501hyear of publication, aims at providing an arena for the students to express various developments in technology.
The non-technical magazines like Heard Melodies, UICT Patrika encourage the creative talents of the students. Poems and articles are published on various subjects.
Vihar is a special magazine published by the hostelites, on the occasion of Hostel day, where all the activities ranging from collecting articles to getting the magazine printed are carried out by the hostelites. This gives them an insight into various managerial functions.
Sparsh
Sparsh is the nature club of the UICTians. It organizes nature treks and trails, slide shows, cleanliness drives in the UICT and at other places, public awareness campaigns especially in schools, photo exhibitions, etc. Sparsh has also undertaken serious conservation activities including a large-scale tree plantation drive, an anti-plastic bag campaign involving the popularization of jute bags, etc. Sparsh inculcates in the UICTians love and respect for nature, and a desire to learn from it. And a promise - to care for the environment in everything we do, to turn to the eco-friendly way of life.
Other Activities
UICTians also participate actively in various intercollegiate festivals. A UICT prize-winning entry is certain at all technical paper presentations and seminars all over the country.
To combat the stresses encountered in the students' hectic life, relief is provided by means of workshops on Art of Living (AOL) and sessions of Yoga.
Facilities for Students
HOSTELS: The Institute has four hostel blocks accommodating both boys and girls. Fifth hostel block is being remodelled.
LIBRARY: The Professor M.M. Sharma Library, with open-access concept, is one of the best libraries in the country with
Special Library Status. The library has a specialized collection in the field of Science and Chemical Technology/ Engineering and possesses some of the rare reports and books. It has a membership with DELNET and INDEST - AICTE consortia, New Delhi.
AUDITORIA: There are two auditoria at
the UICT for various academic and
cultural functions. One of them can
accommodate about 120 persons
(K. Venkatraman auditorium), while the
other can accommodate about 650
persons (New auditorium). Both the
auditoria have the necessary audio-visual
facilities.
UICT GARDENS: The UICT is spread
over 16 acres of land. The lush green
gardens of the Institute are a matter of
pride. In the area of 6 acres, 100 and odd
trees, apart from hundreds of shrubs,
bushes, and creepers, stand steadfastly
to beautify the campus. For many years,
the Institute bags several prizes at the
city level for its gardens.
• CANTEEN: UICT has canteen facilities
for students, staff and faculty, wherein
snacks and lunch are served at
concessional rates. It is housed in Dr. B.P.
Godrej Students' Centre.
• STUDENTS' COUNSELLING:
Professional counsellors have been
employed, along with the faculty
members of the UICT, to have a constant
dialogue with the students and to sort out
their problems at the very root.
• PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT
ACTIVITIES: A few courses/workshops
are conducted for the benefit of the
students like, yoga, stress management,
time management, interpersonal skills,
communication skills, presentation skills,
interview skills, etc.
• MERIT-CUM-MEANS SCHOLARSHIPS:
There are about 200 Merit-cum-Means
scholarships for the needy students,
instituted by the alumni, well wishers, and
Industry.
• INFORMATION PROCESSING
CENTRE (IPC): IPC provides Internet
and intranet connectivity to all students.
IPC looks after office automation and web
based e-circulars in the institute as well
as development of the network
connectivity in the institute.
• E-MAIL AND INTERNET: All the faculty
members have been given the Internet
connections in their respective offices,
which can be used by the research students.
• SOPHISTICATED INSTRUMENTS: In
the various Departments of the UICT,
some of the modem sophisticated
equipments are available like, Laser-
Doppler anemometer, GC-MS, LC-MS,
SEM, NMR, HP-TLC, HPLC, GC, GPC,
XRD, DSC, DTA, AAS, Super Critical CO2
Extractor, Computer workstations, etc.
• VISITING FACULTY/SCIENTISTS:
UICT has created several endowments
to invite eminent scientists to deliver
lectures on frontier topics in Science and
Technology for the benefit of the entire
student community. There are more than
35 visiting Fellowships, Professorships,and Lectureships. Eminent scientists
from within the country and from abroad
visit the UICT under these schemes,
interact with the faculty and the students
and deliver lectures. It is a unique feature
of the Institute.
• BOMBAY TECHNOLOGIST: The
Bombay Technologist is a yearly technical
journal of the Technological Association,
started in 1951. The journal publishes
technical articles in the thrust areas of
science and technology, written by the
students and the faculty of the Institute. The
journal also supports the technical
conference presentations of research
students and the students' creativity. Best
Articles, Students' creativity and Best
Doctorate Student are suitably awarded by
the Bombay Technologist.
• THE SPIRIT: The Institute publishes in
house periodical, 'The Spirit', in which
articles by the students on non-technical
topics are published. All the faculty and
students' activities in the UICT are also
presented in this magazine.
• SPORTS AND GAMES: The UICT has
a separate playground for outdoor
games. A new Dr. B.P. Godrej Students'
Centre provides facilities for indoor
games. The necessary sports materials
as well as music instruments for cultural
activities are provided. The Hostel blocks
have indoor game facilities too.
• BEST THESIS AWARDS: Every year,
theses are selected from Masters, and
Doctoral streams for the Best Thesis of
the Year awards.
• THE PLACEMENT RECORD: For all
the branches is of the highest order. In
fact, the alumni are at the helm of affairs
of many renowned chemical industries.
• THE UDCT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION:
(UAA) has established chapters within
India and abroad. UAA has constant
interaction with the Alma matter and it
supports many activities of the UICT.
• MEDICAL FACILITIES: Free medical
consultation is available for hostelites,
faculty and day scholars. Medical
professionals visit the Hostel No. 5 in the
evening from Monday to Friday.
