Rules and Regulations
 

WORKING HOURS
The Library is open from 8-30 a.m. to 8-30 p.m. on working days and 11-00 a.m. to 6-00 p.m. on holidays and Sundays. The open shelf system having been adopted, readers have free access to books and journals. Lending service is restricted to the faculty, staff and students of the Department, and also to visiting faculty, UICT fellows and UGC Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS)/Department of Special Assistance (DSA) visiting fellows.

REGULATIONS

  • The library will remain open for reference and study from 8-30 a.m. to 8-30 p.m. on working days and 11-00 a.m. to 6-00 p.m. on Sundays and holidays except the two national holidays, Ganesh Chaturthi and Dasara.
  • Readers are requested to observe strict silence in the library and to avoid causing inconvenience in any manner to other readers.
  • Bags, books (except note-books), umbrellas and inkpots are not allowed to be taken into the library. Books or journals taken out from a shelf for reference should be put back in their correct places. In case of doubt, they may be left on the nearest table or assistance of the library staff could be requested.
  • Books or journals should not be used as pads when taking down notes or left open unattended to and should be handled carefully so as to avoid damage. Any accidental damage should be immediately reported to the library staff
  • Every student making use of the library must have an Identity Card which he or she must produce if demanded.
  • Conversation and smoking are strictly prohibited.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES FOR STUDENTS

  • Books may be borrowed by students of the Department. A new student must produce his/her deposit receipt and identity card before his/her name is registered as a borrower.
  • Books (other than reference books) may be borrowed and or returned between 9-00 a.m. and 6-00 p.m. on working days.
  • Reference books and journals are not issued.
  • No book is to be removed out of the library until it is issued by the charging clerk and signed for by the borrower.
  • A borrower is not allowed to have more than two volumes on loan at any time.
  • Borrowed books must be returned to the library within two weeks from the date of issue, or on demand by the Librarian. Failure to comply with this regulation will involve a fine of Re.l/- per day per book. Text book can be borrowed for a week only. A book returned by a borrower may be reissued to him/her only if there is no other claimant for it for next three days.
  • Final year students are not permitted to borrow books during the summer vacation.
  • Books must be returned in as good condition as they were at the time of issue. If a book is damaged or scribbled upon, the borrower will be liable to pay the full price of the book.
  • On returning books, borrowers must ensure that the receiving clerk discharges the loan entry with his initials. Until this is done the borrower is responsible for the book.
  • A borrowed book which is not returned (or replaced by an acceptable fresh copy within 90 days of the 'due date') shall be treated as irrevocable and the borrower shall be charged in addition to the overdue fine, double the current price of the book subject to a minimum charge of Rs.50/-, provided that where the borrower pays such charge earlier, the overdue fine shall be charged only up to date of such payments.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES OF FACULTY/VISITING FACULTY /UICT FELLOWS

  • Faculty members can borrow upto G6 books for a month
  • Latest issues of journals can be borrowed after three days of their arrival and display. Other old journals/bound volumes, can also be borrowed. At a time, upto two journals/bound volumes can be borrowed and must be returned on the next day. Failure to return the journals in time will have a penalty of suspension of the borrowing rights for journals for a period of one month.
  • Faculty member can borrow ordinary reference books for 3 days.
  • Faculty members will not be required to pay any fine for overdue books upto 3 days of due date.

PHOTOCOPYING FACILITIES
Photocopying facility is available. At the present time the charges are Re. 1-00 per page per copy. Coupons are available with the Account Division. Copyrighted material/books will not be photocopied.
